The current tax law for 2008 does not include a credit for heat pumps unless it is a geothermal heat pump. The new stimulus plan includes a tax credit for 2009 and 2010 but does not say anything about being retro active for 2008. This could change but has not yet.

If it’s not a geo thermal unit, you don’t get a credit. The rest of the energy credit *intentionally* skipped 2008.
